Rolex is a name that has become a social phenomenon, originally a trademark, is now a status symbol of the twenty-first century. Certainly the July 2, 1908, at 8 a.m., when Hans Wilsdorf placed the Rolex brand under number 24,001, he never dreamed only imagine that 80 years later, his creation would become the largest manufacturer of watches and more scope in the world.
Rolex is a word invented by Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of “Montrex Rolex SA”
Wilsdorf was born on March 22, 1881 in Kumblach, Franconia. His parents died in 1893 and was placed in a school for his uncle. With interest charged by overseas starts working as an apprentice in an exporting firm. Calling at 1900 in ‘La Chaux De Fonds’, a small Swiss town in which he discovered his passion for wristwatches. Your employer watches exported but very few were made for them. Enamored of watches, pocket watches asked three reputed to wrist watches and asked them to the certificate of accuracy of these to Neuchatel Observatory and introduced into the supply of the company.

In 1910 Rolex manufactured the first pocket watch with an accuracy that, four years later obtained from the observatory in Kew (UK) a certificate of high precision very similar to that given to the marine chronometer of the time.

With the market in 1926’s first waterproof wristwatch (the famous Oyster), the supremacy of the Swiss extends throughout the world. The Rolex Oyster has defied the most extreme conditions, from the summit of Everest to the Sahara Desert.

His resistance has won the elite athletes, their reliability to the most intrepid explorers and their elegance continues seducing great figures of the twentieth century. Oyster the box, along with the Scratch-proof sapphire crystal and the crown rising screwed, “Twinlock” is the best proof of the superiority of a Rolex. A box so robust that, by its design and its completion, is comparable to a safe in miniature. To get it, it sculpts a block of solid steel, 18-karat gold or platinum, in a delicate work that requires more than 150 operations. The machine consists of an Oyster by more than 220 components. A genuine work of art in which the master and watch the search for perfection are latent in each of its parts.

The union of a breakthrough technology, a comprehensive quality control throughout all stages of development and the expert hands of artisans watchmakers, provides each Oyster that touch of perfection that accredits its prestige. Also, each clock Rolex Oyster goes through a rigorous review of 15 days and 15 nights before obtaining the certificate of “Officiel Suisse des Chronométres” (COSC). The collection for Oyster gentleman and lady offers a wide range of models, all of which are leakproof up to 100 meters, with the exception of Oysterquartz, with rotor Perpetual rope automatically. Balls of different colors, including a seamed with diamonds, Roman, Arab or strokes, three types of cuff and finishing the bezel to form a unique universe of luxury and precision.
In 1952 starts the production of the “Submariner”, ref. 6204 (Known to collectors as James Bond, recognizable by the lack of protections on both sides of the crown).
In 1961 comes the manual chronograph, Cosmograph Daytona (cf. 6239-6241), begins production will continue until 1976.
In 1971 he introduced the first Sea-Dweller watch for divers. The first copies were submersible to 660 m. Today the same models Submariner reach 1220 m.
